| REDENTORE
21/22.07.2007 The Redentore is one of the most treasured celebrations for Venice dwellers, and is a tourist attraction thanks to the spectacular firework display which takes place in the evening. It falls on the third Sunday in July, when the Holy Mass is held in the presence of the Patriarch, followed by a religious procession. But the heart of the celebration takes place on Saturday night: in the unbeatable scenario of Saint Mark’s Basin, a game of lights and reflections creates an ensemble of colours against the spires, domes and bell towers of the city. |

| REGATA STORICA
02.09.2007 Water is the most representative element of Venice and it is no coincidence that the most famous and spectacular celebration in the city takes place on the waters of the Grand Canal. Today, the Regata Storica remains one of the most spectacular, picturesque and moving events of Venetian life, a charming happening for the visitors and an exciting tradition for the locals. A historical procession commemorates the welcome given to Caterina Cornaro, wife of the King of Cyprus, in 1489, after she renounced her throne in favour of Venice. It is a procession of 16th century style boats, with the famous Bucintoro, the boat representing the Serenissima, at its head. Then comes the competition. Spectators are invited to participate encouraging the competitors during the race. |

| CARNEVALE
13/20.02.2007 Re-launched two decades ago, the Carnival was immediately considered an event not to be missed both at national and international level. Venice Carnival is rich in history, charm and tradition: Venice dwellers and tourists alike have taken a keen interest in it, thanks to its combination of transgression, art, history and culture in one of the most unique cities in the world. During the ten days of Carnival leading up to Mardi Gras, Venice is bustling with activity and entertainment, from improvised street shows to performances put on by the organisers. A theme is chosen each year and enacted in the several cultural and art performances throughout the celebration. Saint Mark’s Square remains the heart of Carnival, with its huge stage, although other events take place throughout the city, preventing an excessive build-up of people in pedestrianised Venice. |
